Fitball is an activity considered mild, but which helps to train the body completely and even rehabilitate certain injuries.

This is a sports practice that, since the 60s, is adding, day by day, new followers. It was born as a rehabilitation activity, then it was incorporated into gyms. Now the use of fitballs is so widespread that there are already offices that have replaced the traditional chairs with these giant balls to take care of the backs of all their employees.

The main benefits of fitball are the following:

  • The fitball is soft gymnastics that, however, allows you to work your entire body completely.
  • Improves balance and proprioception, that is, the sense that allows to know what is the relative position of different muscles throughout the body.
  • Although with the fitballs you can train many areas of the body, your main work is done in the so-called ‘core’ (the middle part of the body where the transverse abdominal, pelvic floor and gluteals are) and in the stabilizers of the spine.
  • Better postural control, since the muscles are strengthened and, with it, the capacity for greater stability of the body.
  • The surface and the relative hardness of the fitballs makes it adapt to the different characteristics of the people who use them.
  • The giant balls offer an integral physical conditioning, since, with them, coordination and flexibility as well as resistance and strength are worked on.
  • Fitballs are also used as a complement in classes of aerobic activities, so it is one more tool to make the cardiovascular system work. They can be included both in the warm-up phase and in the exercise phase and, of course, in the final stretch part.

There are a series of guidelines that people who practice fitball should follow, either as a fitness tool or as an aid in the rehabilitation of an injury.

In addition, it is important to determine what the objective of this training is, since it will not be the same exercises, loads and repetitions, this depends on what we want to achieve when performing this practice.

  • To clean them, simply wash the balls with a wet cloth. If necessary, you can use soap, but without rubbing with fibers or other abrasive material.
  • As in any physical activity, you must warm up before you start the exercises and do not forget to stretch when you finish to avoid injuries.
  • A correct hydration is very important before, during and after the fitball exercise table. We share a video of a fitball class to encourage you to do it.
